About
If you have children, then you know the discussion about sports. Most kids are curious about and guided to participate in a sporting activity when they reach a certain age. An interest may start before school age but the foothold is secured when a child is about 6 years old. At that time, the dynamic changes drastically with input from peers and a more competitive, academic environment.
However, before the conversations begin and any parental guidance ensues an infant sitting on Dad’s lap while watching football, tennis, boxing, road racing, wrestling, golf or any other televised sporting event, is influenced to be competitive starting at a very young age. We know that kids are little sponges and if they see Mommy or Daddy enjoying something they will want to know more. To what extent, depends on the kid.
Our Bledlow Ridge blog site is about covering different perspectives regarding youth sports. What’s safe, what’s trending, what’s new in equipment and how is all of this affecting your kids and your parental decisions about their participation in certain sports?
It’s not easy keeping up with ‘what’s best’, but a well-informed parent can naturally make better choices when given more facts. It is my hope that my articles bring further clarity to an often overwhelming area.
What your child wants and what is best for them may be vastly different. When the discussion comes up in your household choosing a sport that fits his or her personality, and physical attributes is one not to be taken lightly. Guiding a child towards the right sport for him or her can lead to years of fulfillment and fun or stress and loss of self-assurance.
On the other hand, telling a kid “he can’t” can be demoralizing and could cost the child confidence and self-esteem. There isn’t one answer that is perfect for every individual and no one said being a parent was easy, but at Bledlow Ridge’s blog site, I like to offer information and helpful pointers towards making the job a bit less stressful.
